Áine is delighted to announce that she will visit the Irish American Cultural Centre during her time in Chicago for a screening of her documentary, “Grá & Eagla” (Love and Fear). This event will take place on October 28th and is being run in conjunction with the Consulate General of Ireland, Chicago and Na Gaeil. See full event details here.
This award winning documentary tells the funny and heartwarming story of when Áine brought a bilingual comedy show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018. Similar to that, the story captures how Áine, as a non native speaker herself, has had many bumps along the way to becoming a confident Irish speaker. The film portrays many of the insecurities and fears she still experiences and feelings that are relatable for anyone trying to learn a second language. Overall, this is an inspiring story of how Áine has overcome these obstacles and continues to influence others on their journey to learn the Irish langauge.
The film was directed by Caitríona Coyne and edited by Ruth McNally. In 2018 / 2019 it screened at more than 30 international film festivals and won the following awards;
- ‘Best Documentary Character’ Toronto Wildsound Film Festival 2019
- ‘Best International Film’ award at the Culture and Diversity Film Festival California 2018
- ‘Best International Film’ – WIF Austin Indie Film Festival 2018
You can register for the event on October 28th here.
You can watch the film here and contact Áine by email ([email protected]) if you’re interested to arrange a screening or to learn more.
It was funded by the Galway Film Centre through the “Dig Where You Stand” scheme.
