A “Cup of Focals” is Áine’s Guerrilla Gaeilge endeavour, where she likes to pop up in random spots with a cup full of Irish words and ask strangers if they’d like a focal. The aim is to surprise people into having a quick, fun and friendly chat in Irish. As Áine knows, one major problem facing nervous Irish speakers, is that there are few opportunities to speak Irish in everyday life. Hence, with her cup, Áine is trying to counteract this problem by making Irish a more normal part of our everyday communities. Using her own unique methods, of course.
The cup is a perfect addition for festivals, solo shows and events, programming for Seachtain na Gaeilge and any space interested in having a pop up Irish activity. It is suitable for both adults and children.
Places Áine has brought her cup include; Culture Date with Dublin 8 Festival, The Fingal Libraries Children’s Literature Festival, Ballybunion Arts Festival, Inis Oírr Summer Festival, Kerry Pride Festival, Dublin International Literature Festival, weekly events in Little Bird Cafe Portobello, various libraries throughout Dublin, to name a few.
