I am delighted to be a part of this year’s Culture Date with Dublin 8 festival, taking place in the city from May 8th to May 12th. They commissioned this giant cup for my cup of focals and I have never felt more validated as an artist.
My “Cup of Focals” is all about creating opportunities for people to have quick and fun interactions using their cúpla focal. I understand the growing desire that people have to speak and use Irish more. Personally, I have learned Irish the hard way, not having come from a fluent speaking background and that’s why I also understand the difficulty and fear that we all experience which can stop us. That’s why I’ve created this artistic endeavour and using guerrilla tactics and a literal cup full of words, I roam the streets and surprise people by giving them a focal, and an opportunity to have a friendly chat as Gaeilge.
In addition to the Dublin 8 festival, I’ll be popping up in different places this Summer including; The International Literature Festival Dublin May 18th, Dun Laoghaire Library May 29th and June 26th plus lots of other unannounced spots.
