Shock horror, but in the ripe old year of 2026 I’ve decided to start a podcast. It’s a very simple format, sharing stories from my days out as a Guerrilla Gaeilge Activist. That means I go around asking strangers if they’d like a focal. A focal, pronounced fuckle, is an Irish word. And when strangers do want one (often they don’t) they can take one from my cup full of Irish words. The aim is to help people use their cúpla focal, couple of Irish words, in a fun and non-intimidating way.
I’ve been out doing this in one way or another since 2023. It’s been fun, rewarding and also really difficult. Lately I’ve been going to the same bench in a public park and calling it my office. This podcast will share stories about some of the things that have been happening and the people I’ve been meeting. Honestly, so many lovely and funny things always seem to happen when I’m out there ambushing strangers.
